barcamp hong kong 2007!!!!!!
had a fun afternoon yesterday walking around in my techcrunch shirt at the Yahoo!HK headquarters =) once there i found myself surrounded by people in firefox, linux and all kinds of web 2.0 shirts; people handing out moo cards, showing off their flickr/cc stickers, giving interactive sessions on ajax, facebook, open social, desktop apps, digital printing, web service scalability...whatever you can think of. free coffee, cookies, chips and sandwiches were provided. it's surprising to see so many talented and generous people in HK who came here to share their love. or just to learn...like why i was there.
one of the 98 participants was raymond chung, founder of OPENRICE.com! i told him how i couldn't live without openrice and how the mobile version of the site proves handy for eaters on the go like me...haha. now i know i'm one of the 60 hongkongers who actually use the mobile site :) he also told me how he's hated by restaurants with bad reviews and that he had to be careful not to reveal his identity when going to these places for food.....hahha...it was a random yet memorable chat. you can say hello to him at his tech blog here =p
chatted a little with chris heilmann, a warm guy who came all the way from london! thanks for the moo card, chris ;)
other people i recognized include edison chok a.k.a. edchok from dookaz, sponser of the barcamp shirt; charles mok - the guy who needs no introduction; rebecca mackinnon the freespeech activist; angus lau - one of the organizers and a cheerful guy from 852signal and editgrid who has a firefox shirt and two lovely cats at home; leon ho of stepcase.com who gave an interesting presentation on web scalability and took a photo for me, haha; ben cheng whom i met once at the creative commons workshop; and a couple of developers from beansbox and outblaze...
IT'S GREAT FUN :D
can't wait for the next barcamp to come!!!!
